Virtual Music Education and Collaboration Laboratory

The objective of MusiCoLab is to develop a comprehensive technological platform for remote computer-assisted music education by supporting synchronous and asynchronous collaboration practices. It aims at creating a highly innovative product by combining research achievements, technical expertise and scientific and artistic experience in three domains, namely:
  1. Networked Music Performance (NMP), for the development of a teleconferencing system which will be tailored to the requirements of music communication.
  2. Human Computer Interaction and Computer Supported Cooperative Work, which will focus on the development of interactive artifacts for synchronous collaboration in music lessons.
  3. Artificial Intelligence, for supporting music education through the development of computational models for automatic harmonisation, which be used for the purposes of teaching music improvisation.
